**New Delhi, February 20** – Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister today in a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, making history as the only female chief minister among the 18 NDA-ruled states. The ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and numerous dignitaries including Union Ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, along with several Chief Ministers from other states, marked a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape.
Gupta, a first-time MLA who won the Shalimar Bagh constituency by a significant margin in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, took the oath at 12:35 pm. Along with her, six other BJP MLAs – Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh – were sworn in as ministers.
The event was marked by high security, with over 25,000 security personnel deployed across the capital. Prior to the ceremony, Gupta expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the BJP leadership, emphasizing her commitment to fulfilling the party’s promises to the people of Delhi. She also highlighted the significance of her achievement as an inspiration for women across the country.
Several BJP leaders hailed the appointment as a victory for “Nari Shakti” (women’s power) and a testament to gender equality. Meanwhile, reactions from opposition parties were mixed, with some offering congratulations while others remained critical. The new Delhi government’s priorities, according to incoming minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, will include cleaning Delhi and the Yamuna River. The BJP’s victory marks the end of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) rule in Delhi.
