Thu Feb 20 01:08:41 UTC 2025: ## Delhi High Court Seeks Centre’s Response on Rahul Gandhi’s Citizenship

**New Delhi, February 20, 2025** – The Delhi High Court on Wednesday adjourned a hearing on BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s plea questioning Rahul Gandhi’s Indian citizenship until March 26. The court directed the central government to provide an update on the status of Swamy’s representation to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Swamy’s petition, filed in August 2019, alleges that Gandhi’s disclosure of British citizenship to the UK government constitutes a violation of Indian law. The MHA reportedly sent Gandhi a letter in April 2019, requesting clarification on the matter.

The court acknowledged that it was not substantively addressing the citizenship issue itself but was merely seeking information on the government’s response to Swamy’s complaint. The court’s decision follows a similar petition filed in the Allahabad High Court by a BJP worker from Karnataka, S Vignesh Shishir, who argued that the Delhi petition was redundant due to the central government’s ongoing review in his case. The Delhi High Court, however, did not consider this a bar to hearing Swamy’s petition. The March 26 hearing will focus solely on the government’s response to Swamy’s original complaint.
