Wed Feb 19 18:53:01 UTC 2025: ## Thrissur’s Political Leaders Unite Against Drug Abuse and Ragging Ahead of Elections
**THRISSUR, Kerala, February 20, 2025** – Newly elected district chiefs from the Congress, CPI(M), and BJP in Thrissur have pledged a united front against the rising issues of drug abuse and ragging in the region. Speaking at a Thrissur Press Club event Wednesday, the leaders, while maintaining their party lines, showed a rare convergence on these social issues, even as local body and Assembly elections loom.
Congress District Committee president Joseph Tajet expressed confidence in the Congress’s return to power, outlining plans to address internal party matters and strengthen its grassroots support. He warned against the politicization of events like the Thrissur Pooram, accusing the CPI(M) and BJP of an unholy nexus, citing the ED’s investigation into money laundering cases.
CPI(M) district secretary K.V. Abdul Khader criticized the ED’s alleged double standards in its investigations, calling the inquiry into the Kodakara scam a “farce.” He questioned Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s commitment to Thrissur’s development, pointing to the absence of local projects in the Union Budget. Khader also stressed the importance of maintaining the cultural integrity of Thrissur Pooram.
BJP president (Thrissur City) Justin Jacob expressed optimism about the BJP’s electoral prospects, mirroring the party’s Lok Sabha success. He affirmed the BJP’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and ragging.
While the leaders displayed political differences, their shared concern over the social issues affecting Thrissur’s youth provided a brief moment of unity amidst the upcoming electoral battle.
