**NEW DELHI** – Apple today launched the iPhone 16e, effectively replacing the iPhone SE line and marking the end of the “special edition” branding for its budget-friendly iPhones. The new device boasts a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the iPhone SE 3, offering modern features at a competitive price point.
The iPhone 16e, starting at ₹59,900 (approximately $720 USD) for the 128GB model in India, features a design reminiscent of the iPhone 14, including a 6.1-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a wide notch incorporating Face ID. Gone is the older iPhone 8 design, the Lightning port, and the home button. In its place is a USB-C port, complying with EU regulations, and a more modern aesthetic.
Powering the device is the A18 chip, the same processor found in Apple’s flagship iPhone 16 series. A notable upgrade is the inclusion of 8GB of RAM, enabling Apple Intelligence features, a significant improvement over the 3GB RAM in the iPhone SE 3. Storage options range from 128GB to 512GB.
Other upgrades include a 48-megapixel rear camera and a 12MP front camera, IP68 dust and water resistance, and iOS 18.3 out of the box. The iPhone 16e comes in black and white matte finishes.
Pre-orders begin February 21st, with general availability on February 28th. The launch of the iPhone 16e also signifies the discontinuation of both the iPhone SE 3 and the iPhone 14, solidifying the 16e’s position as Apple’s most affordable current offering.
