Wed Feb 19 19:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Guardians Sign Left-Handed Pitcher John Means to Two-Year Deal
**Cleveland, OH** – The Cleveland Guardians bolstered their pitching staff today, signing free agent left-handed pitcher John Means to a Major League contract for the 2025 season with a club option for 2026. The 31-year-old Means, formerly of the Baltimore Orioles, brings a wealth of experience despite recent injury setbacks.
Means, a 2019 American League All-Star, had a breakout season that year, posting 12 wins and a 3.60 ERA. He also threw a no-hitter for the Orioles in 2021, striking out a career-high 12 batters. However, he’s been hampered by left elbow injuries over the past three seasons, limiting his appearances. Despite this, he showed promise in 2024 with a 2.61 ERA in four starts before returning to the injured list.
To make room for Means on the 40-man roster, the Guardians placed utility player David Fry on the 60-day injured list. Means has already reported to spring training and will begin working out with the team tomorrow. The Guardians are hopeful that Means’s talent and experience, combined with a full recovery from his injuries, will make a significant contribution to the team in the coming seasons.
