**London, UK** – A new report suggests Rockstar Games is exploring a significant shift for Grand Theft Auto 6, drawing inspiration from the user-generated content (UGC) successes of Fortnite and Roblox. According to Digiday, citing anonymous industry insiders, Rockstar has held meetings with prominent creators from these platforms, as well as dedicated GTA content creators, to discuss integrating custom experiences into GTA 6.
This move would allow players to modify game environments and assets, potentially incorporating their own intellectual property and brand sponsorships, transforming GTA 6 into a more metaverse-like platform. The focus is expected to be on role-playing (RP) servers, a key factor in GTA 5’s enduring popularity. Rockstar’s 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, creators of popular GTA RP mods, further supports this strategy.
While details remain scarce, the report indicates Rockstar aims to officially support modders and custom game modes, creating a monetization model similar to Fortnite and Roblox, where both creators and Rockstar would share revenue. This would also open doors for brands to participate in the GTA 6 virtual world.
Although unconfirmed by Rockstar, this approach aligns with the immense influence of GTA and the success of its competitors in leveraging UGC. The report adds another layer of intrigue to the highly anticipated GTA 6, slated for release later this year, with much of its content and features still shrouded in mystery.
