**Bengaluru, February 19, 2025** – The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Bengaluru dealt a significant blow to international drug trafficking on Wednesday, arresting five individuals and seizing approximately 20 kilograms of high-grade hydroponic marijuana. The drugs were allegedly being smuggled from Thailand to Bengaluru.
The arrests followed an operation at Kempegowda International Airport, where NCB officials intercepted the suspects carrying the contraband. The accused, aged between 25 and 35, are believed to be acting as mules for a larger transnational syndicate. The syndicate allegedly lured the Indian nationals to Thailand, promising them payment to transport the marijuana back to India, falsely claiming that cannabis possession is not illegal in the country.
NCB officials issued a public warning, stating that possession of cannabis in India is a crime punishable by up to 20 years imprisonment. They urged citizens to exercise caution and avoid carrying any unverified baggage. The investigation into the international syndicate continues.
