**Toronto, Canada –** Delta Air Lines is offering $30,000 to each of the 80 passengers aboard a flight that crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday. The airline confirmed the compensation package to AFP, stating it carries no stipulations and does not impact passengers’ legal rights.
The Bombardier CRJ-900, en route from Minneapolis, Minnesota, experienced a hard landing, flipping upside down and bursting into flames. Dramatic video footage shows the plane skidding on its roof, its wings severed before coming to a halt. While the incident resulted in a fireball and thick black smoke, remarkably, no fatalities were reported.
Twenty-one passengers sustained injuries, though only one remains hospitalized as of Wednesday. Emergency responders treated a range of injuries, including back sprains, head injuries, and anxiety.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating the crash, collaborating with the US Federal Aviation Administration, Delta, and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, which acquired the CRJ line from Bombardier in 2019. This incident follows a recent series of aviation accidents in North America, including a fatal helicopter-jet collision in Washington and a fatal medical transport plane crash in Philadelphia.
