**NEW DELHI** – Rekha Gupta, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA from Shalimar Bagh, has been appointed the next Chief Minister of Delhi. The announcement follows recent elections where Gupta successfully nominated herself as a candidate for the top post.
Gupta, born July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana, boasts a strong educational background, holding a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Delhi University, along with advanced degrees in management and arts. Her political career began during her time at Delhi University, where she served as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) from 1996-1997. She later transitioned to municipal politics, serving as a councilor from Uttari Pitampura.
A long-time member of the BJP, Gupta has held various key positions within the party, including General Secretary of the Delhi state unit and a current member of the National Executive. She has also been active with the BJP Mahila Morcha, focusing on women’s empowerment.
Gupta’s appointment marks a significant milestone, making her one of the few women to hold the Chief Minister position within the BJP.
