Wed Feb 19 19:07:58 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta to be Sworn in as Delhi’s New Chief Minister
**New Delhi, Feb 19** – Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA, will be sworn in as Delhi’s next Chief Minister on Thursday, February 20th, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced today. The announcement ends days of speculation following the BJP’s resounding victory in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, where they secured 48 out of 70 seats.
Gupta, elected as the leader of the BJP’s legislative party this evening, will be the second woman Chief Minister from the BJP and the fourth woman to hold the post in Delhi’s history. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party leadership for their trust. “A golden chapter of Delhi towards development is starting,” she stated.
The swearing-in ceremony will be a grand affair, taking place at the iconic Ramlila Maidan and attended by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior BJP leaders. The venue, chosen for its historical significance as the site of a major 1975 protest, is undergoing extensive preparations to accommodate the expected large crowd.
The AAP, the previous ruling party, congratulated Gupta but criticized the BJP for the delay in naming a Chief Minister. Meanwhile, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, V K Saxena, has invited Gupta to form the government.
The BJP’s victory marks a significant return to power in Delhi after a 27-year absence. The party has pledged to fulfill its electoral commitments and work towards the development of the national capital under Prime Minister Modi’s vision. Security preparations are underway for Thursday’s ceremony, with a significant police presence planned at Ramlila Maidan.
