**SAO PAULO, Brazil –** Brazilian authorities are searching for a British journalist who has been missing for 11 days. Charlotte Alice Peet, 32, a freelance reporter who has written for publications including Al Jazeera, The Times of London, and The Evening Standard, was last heard from on February 8th.
According to Sao Paulo’s public security secretariat, police have launched an investigation into Peet’s disappearance. Peet, who is fluent in Portuguese, contacted a friend in Rio de Janeiro via WhatsApp on February 8th, stating her intention to travel from Sao Paulo and requesting accommodation. However, she has not been heard from since.
Peet’s family in the UK contacted the same friend a few days later, reporting that they had lost contact with her. The Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in Brazil (ACIE) subsequently raised the alarm.
Peet, who previously worked as a freelance correspondent in Rio de Janeiro before returning to London, had been back in Brazil since November. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear. Brazilian authorities are working to locate her and determine the facts.
