Thu Feb 20 03:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Injured Auburn Guard Baker-Mazara Leads Tigers to Victory Over Alabama
**TUSCALOOSA, AL** – Despite playing through an upper-body injury suffered in practice, Auburn guard Chad Baker-Mazara delivered a crucial performance in the Tigers’ 94-85 road win over No. 2 Alabama on Saturday. Baker-Mazara, who fouled out late in the game, scored 15 points – third-highest on the team – grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists, and shot efficiently from the field (4-of-7) and beyond the arc (2-of-3).
His most impactful contribution came with 7:23 remaining, when he answered Alabama’s game-tying three-pointer with a clutch three of his own. Auburn never relinquished the lead after that point. Coach Bruce Pearl praised Baker-Mazara’s playmaking ability, noting his efficient assist-to-turnover ratio and ability to create scoring opportunities. Baker-Mazara also drew numerous fouls, capitalizing on all five of his free throw attempts.
Pearl acknowledged Baker-Mazara’s injury, stating he wasn’t sure the guard would even play. “He’s a gamer, and he’s got some toughness,” Pearl said. “He knows how to play and he’s such a great passer. He’s a dangerous player.” The coach’s confidence in Baker-Mazara proved well-placed as the guard’s performance proved instrumental in securing the victory against a strong Alabama team in a hostile environment. Chris Moore stepped in admirably for Baker-Mazara when he was off the court.
The win adds another significant victory to Auburn’s season, sending a message to the college basketball world. The Tigers’ next game is Wednesday against Arkansas at 8 p.m. CT, broadcast on ESPN.
