Thu Feb 20 00:31:51 UTC 2025: ## Apple Unveils Sleeker, More Expensive iPhone 16e with AI Capabilities
**CUPERTINO, CA –** Apple has launched the iPhone 16e, the fourth generation of its budget-friendly iPhone model, featuring a significant upgrade in both design and price. This new iteration, announced Wednesday and available for pre-order Friday, boasts a 40% price increase over its predecessor, the iPhone SE, starting at $600. While more expensive than its SE counterpart, it remains more affordable than the entry-level iPhone 16 at $800.
The iPhone 16e incorporates a more powerful processor designed to handle Apple’s new AI features, dubbed “Apple Intelligence.” These features include text and audio summarization, on-the-fly emoji creation, and improved Siri functionality. The phone also sports a larger 6.1-inch display (compared to the 4.7-inch SE screen), a superior camera, a longer-lasting battery, and facial recognition for unlocking, mirroring features of Apple’s higher-end models. The home button, a hallmark of the SE series, has been removed.
Apple’s strategy with the iPhone 16e reflects a delicate balancing act, according to Forrester Research analyst Dipanjan Chatterjee. The company aims to attract new customers with a more affordable option while preventing it from cannibalizing sales of its more profitable flagship models. The full rollout of Apple Intelligence has faced delays, however, impacting holiday sales and particularly impacting the Chinese market where availability remains uncertain. A recent partnership with Alibaba could accelerate the AI feature’s launch in China during the first half of 2024. The iPhone 16e will be available in stores on February 28th.
