**Thiruvananthapuram, February 19, 2025** – Renowned columnist and filmmaker Sreevarahom Balakrishnan passed away on Tuesday at the age of 93. Balakrishnan, a long-time contributor to *The Hindu*, specialized in arts criticism. His career spanned academia, where he taught English at Pazhassi Raja NSS College, Mattannur, and NSS College, Dhanuvachapuram, and public service, having served as the Public Relations Officer at Kerala Raj Bhavan.
Beyond his writing for *The Hindu*, Balakrishnan made significant contributions to Malayalam cinema. He penned the dialogues for the Mammootty film *Elavancode Desam* and wrote the screenplays for *Swathi Thirunal*, *Snehapurvam Meera*, and *Aswathi*.
He is survived by his wife and children. His cremation will take place at Santhikavadom, Thycaud, on Wednesday evening.
