**Bensalem, PA –** A Michigan man has been arrested and charged with six counts of attempted homicide after allegedly driving over 700 miles to set fire to a Pennsylvania home. Brian Jones, of Rockford, Michigan, is accused of intentionally setting fire to a two-story home on Merganser Way in Bensalem early on February 10th.
The fire, which is suspected to be arson, engulfed the home at approximately 5:00 am. Six adults inside managed to escape, some jumping from second-story windows, but two dogs perished in the blaze. The injured residents were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Bensalem Township Police Department investigators used surveillance footage, township intersection cameras, and Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) to trace a black 2021 Volkswagen Passat to Jones. The investigation revealed a connection between Jones and a 21-year-old Bensalem resident’s online acquaintance from Michigan – Jones’ ex-girlfriend’s new online acquaintance.
A search warrant executed at Jones’ Michigan residence uncovered lock-picking tools, a cell phone, a computer, and burns on Jones’ arms, further implicating him in the crime. He has been charged with six counts of attempted criminal homicide, arson, and risking a catastrophe.
The Bensalem Township Police Department thanked the Kent County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the arrest and praised their investigators for their work in identifying Jones from grainy surveillance images. The investigation is ongoing.
