**TIRUPATTUR, February 19, 2025** – Amballur police in Tirupattur district have seized 500 kilograms of gutkha, a banned substance, and arrested two men in connection with its transportation. The contraband, packed in 32 gunny bags, was discovered during a vehicle check at a toll plaza near Vaniyambadi on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH 44) on Tuesday.
Police intercepted a speeding SUV following a tip-off. After a short chase, the vehicle was stopped, and the occupants, identified as K. Dhilip (21) and V. Ramesh (45), both residents of Tirupattur, were apprehended. Preliminary investigations suggest the gutkha was being transported from Karnataka through Krishnagiri district for distribution in Vellore, Arcot, Arani, and Tiruvannamalai.
The seized gutkha, the SUV, and the arrested individuals have been handed over to Amballur police. A case has been registered, and the two men are currently lodged in Tirupattur sub-jail. The police investigation is ongoing.
