Wed Feb 19 10:22:36 UTC 2025: ## Tesla to Open Showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai, Signaling India Entry

**NEW DELHI, February 19, 2025** – Tesla is poised to enter the Indian market, with plans to open showrooms in New Delhi and Mumbai, sources confirmed. The electric vehicle giant has secured locations in Aerocity, near Delhi’s international airport, and the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, both approximately 5,000 square feet. These will initially serve as sales outlets for imported Tesla vehicles, with service centers to be determined later.

The move comes after a delay in Tesla’s India entry, initially planned for 2022. The company has been actively seeking showroom space since late last year. The decision follows a meeting last week between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the United States, where discussions included space, mobility, and technology.

Tesla’s expansion into India coincides with the posting of 13 mid-level job advertisements in the country, including roles in store management and customer relations. The company’s entry has faced challenges, primarily due to India’s high import tariffs on electric vehicles (around 100%). While Tesla has lobbied for tariff reductions, facing opposition from domestic automakers, recent discussions between US President Donald Trump and PM Modi suggest a potential path towards resolving the tariff standoff. Opening dates for the showrooms have yet to be announced.
