**Kozhikode, Kerala – February 19, 2025** – Six third-year students from the Holy Cross Institute of Management and Technology in Kozhikode have been arrested for allegedly ragging a first-year BBA student. The incident, which occurred on February 14th following a campus cultural event, involved the seniors forcing the fresher to remove his sunglasses and subsequently assaulting him.
According to the police complaint, the victim refused to remove his sunglasses, leading to a physical altercation where he was beaten and kicked. The Nadakkavu police registered a case on Tuesday, February 18th, based on the victim’s statement and CCTV footage.
The six students face charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, carrying a potential penalty of up to two years imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000.
The institute’s principal, Shiny George, confirmed that the incident was reported to the police on the day it occurred. Following an investigation by the Anti-Ragging Committee and a review of CCTV footage, two students were immediately suspended. Disciplinary action was initially taken against all six involved students.
