Tue Feb 18 16:50:46 UTC 2025: ## AIADMK Leader Raises Concerns Over Pension Delays for Tamil Nadu Senior Citizens

**Chennai, February 19, 2025** – O. Panneerselvam, coordinator of the ADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Committee, has criticized the Tamil Nadu government for alleged delays in pension payments to senior citizens. Panneerselvam, a former Chief Minister and Finance Minister, highlighted the unfulfilled election promise of the ruling DMK party to provide additional pension benefits to senior citizens.

The DMK’s 2021 election manifesto pledged a 10% increase in basic pension for those aged 70 and above, and a further 10% increase for those 80 and above. Panneerselvam claims that super senior citizens (80+) are not receiving the promised 20% additional pension, and that there are delays in restoring commuted pension portions to eligible pensioners. He questioned whether these delays are due to government incompetence or financial constraints.

Furthermore, Panneerselvam noted complaints from pensioners regarding the non-issuance of health insurance cards. He urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to intervene and resolve these issues affecting the state’s elderly population.
