Wed Feb 19 08:18:10 UTC 2025: ## Delhi BJP Set to Name New Chief Minister on Wednesday

**NEW DELHI** – A week after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the party is poised to announce its new Chief Minister. A legislative party meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening will finalize the selection, sources within the party confirm.

The swearing-in ceremony for the new CM will take place at the historic Ramlila Maidan on February 20th at 11:30 AM, a time change from the originally scheduled 4:30 PM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers from 19 NDA-ruled states are expected to attend.

The BJP won 48 of the 70 seats, significantly defeating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which secured only 22 seats. Despite their decisive win, the BJP contested the election without a declared CM candidate, leaving the selection process open until now. The names of six cabinet ministers also remain unannounced.

Several names are circulating as potential candidates, including Parvesh Verma, Ajay Mahawar, Vijender Gupta, Satish Upadhyay, Ashish Sood, and Rekha Gupta. However, BJP insiders suggest the central leadership may opt for a surprise choice, drawing on experience from other states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony are underway at Ramlila Maidan, with renovations and security arrangements being overseen by senior BJP leaders and officials from the Delhi government. Around 30,000 people are expected to attend, including opposition leaders and VIPs. The General Administration Department has appointed protocol officers for the attending NDA Chief Ministers.
