**CHENNAI, February 19, 2025** – The Anna Nagar All Women Police Station rescued a 17-year-old girl from a forced marriage in Aminjikarai on Wednesday. State child protection officers received information that the girl’s parents had compelled her into marriage with a 25-year-old man.
Upon arriving to rescue the girl, officers faced resistance from the family who protested the intervention. A subsequent police investigation revealed that the marriage, conducted last month in a private hall, violated the Child Marriage Prohibition Act as the girl is underage.
After verifying the girl’s birth certificate, police confirmed the marriage’s illegality and took custody of the minor. She has been placed in a children’s home in Kellys. The girl’s parents and husband have been summoned by police, who have registered a case under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act.
