Wed Feb 19 08:42:04 UTC 2025: ## BJP Set to Name New Delhi Chief Minister After Legislative Meeting
**NEW DELHI** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to announce the name of Delhi’s new Chief Minister today following a legislative party meeting. The meeting, attended by top BJP leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, will finalize both the CM and the cabinet ministers. The BJP’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections almost two weeks ago was delayed by a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new Delhi government is scheduled for Thursday, February 20th, at noon at Ramlila Maidan. The event is expected to draw a massive crowd of 25,000-30,000, including prominent Hindu seers, BJP MPs, and top NDA leaders. The ceremony’s theme may mirror the Ayodhya Ram Mandir consecration.
While the BJP remains tight-lipped about the CM candidate, several MLAs are being considered, including Parvesh Sahib Singh, Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay, and Shikha Roy. Party insiders suggest the selection will balance experience and youth, with representation from various Delhi communities.
Meanwhile, the Congress party, after its dismal showing in the elections, is holding its office-bearers accountable for future election results, according to party president Mallikarjun Kharge. He emphasized the need for ideologically committed party members.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which secured only 22 seats, has yet to name its Leader of Opposition. Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal urged AAP to appoint a Dalit leader for the position.
The BJP’s selection of the new Chief Minister follows weeks of speculation and accusations from the AAP, who have criticized the delay in government formation. Preparations at Ramlila Maidan are underway for the high-profile swearing-in ceremony. Reports indicate that several Bollywood celebrities have also been invited to attend.
