Wed Feb 19 17:27:36 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta to be Sworn in as Delhi’s New Chief Minister
**New Delhi, February 19** – Rekha Gupta, a first-time BJP MLA, will be sworn in as Delhi’s next Chief Minister on Thursday, February 20th, at 11 am, at the historic Ramlila Maidan. The announcement came after a meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs, where Gupta was chosen as the leader of the legislative party. This marks the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after a 27-year absence, having secured 48 out of 70 assembly seats in the recent elections.
Gupta, a former Delhi University Students’ Union president and active member of the RSS and ABVP, met with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to stake her claim to form the government. She expressed gratitude to the party leadership and pledged to work for the welfare and development of Delhi’s citizens.
The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior BJP leaders. Security will be significantly heightened at Ramlila Maidan, with over 25,000 security personnel deployed. Traffic restrictions and diversions are in place throughout the city.
The appointment of Gupta has been met with mixed reactions. While BJP leaders celebrated her ascension, praising her dedication and commitment, the AAP expressed its congratulations but also highlighted the delay in naming a Chief Minister. Former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal offered his well wishes and pledged support for Gupta’s efforts towards Delhi’s development. The AAP also criticized the BJP’s apparent lack of focus on law and order following the elections.
