**Pune, Maharashtra – February 19, 2025** – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the 395th anniversary of his birth, pledging to develop and protect the Maratha warrior king’s forts. The ceremony, held at Shivneri Fort in Junnar, was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.

CM Fadnavis announced the formation of a task force to remove encroachments from Shivaji Maharaj’s forts and highlighted the king’s administrative prowess in addition to his military achievements. He stated the government’s commitment to preserving the historical sites.

Deputy CM Shinde revealed that twelve forts, including Shivneri, are being nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status. He also noted that Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary is celebrated internationally, citing celebrations in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, as an example.

Deputy CM Pawar echoed the sentiments, emphasizing the enduring inspiration of Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy and assuring continued funding for the development of his forts. He stressed the ongoing relevance of Shivaji Maharaj’s principles of good governance and social justice.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to the Maratha emperor, praising his courage, visionary leadership and contribution to the establishment of Swarajya (self-rule). Shivaji Maharaj founded the Maratha Empire in the 17th century, known for his military prowess, administrative reforms, and establishment of a civil code. The anniversary is widely celebrated as a festival, showcasing the enduring impact of his reign.
