Tue Feb 18 18:43:00 UTC 2025: ## UP Assembly Budget Session Opens Amidst Chaos and Accusations
**Lucknow, Feb 19, 2025** – The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s budget session opened on Tuesday with a fiery clash between the ruling BJP and the opposition Samajwadi Party (SP). Opposition members disrupted Governor Anandiben Patel’s address, demanding data on deaths during the Maha Kumbh stampede and staging protests outside the assembly. The Governor’s speech was cut short due to the uproar.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath later accused the SP of hypocrisy, claiming they opposed the inclusion of regional languages like Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Braj, and Bundelkhandi in assembly proceedings while sending their children to English-medium schools. He further alleged the SP’s desire to promote Urdu education was an attempt to create “maulvis” (religious scholars) and foster fanaticism.
This sparked outrage from the opposition, with SP MLAs demanding the translation of assembly proceedings into Urdu, mirroring the availability in English. Azad Samaj Party president Chandra Shekhar Azad criticized Adityanath’s language, calling it “derogatory, communal, and unconstitutional,” and accusing the CM of divisive politics.
The budget session is expected to see further confrontations on issues such as alleged mismanagement at the Maha Kumbh, law and order, caste census, and unemployment. A separate protest by SP MLAs outside the assembly highlighted the deportation of Indian citizens from the United States.
