**Tehran, Iran** – Two British nationals, Craig and Lindsay Foreman, have been charged with espionage in Iran, according to the Iranian judiciary’s Mizan news agency. The couple, reportedly in their early fifties and on a round-the-world motorbike trip, were arrested after allegedly collecting information across several Iranian provinces.
Mizan reported that the charges were filed on Tuesday, citing a judicial official who claims the Foremans have links to Western intelligence services. The investigation into these alleged links is ongoing. The couple, who admitted to ignoring warnings against travelling to Iran, described their trip on social media as a “slightly bonkers” adventure and a research project into what constitutes a “good life,” involving interviews with over 360 people.
The Foremans, who crossed into Iran from Armenia in December, have been described as a life coach and carpenter respectively on their social media profiles, where they documented their travels through Italy, Albania, Greece, Turkey, and other countries. Their Facebook posts showcased positive interactions with Iranians, praising the country’s “lovely people.”
The British Foreign Office confirmed it is providing consular assistance and is in contact with Iranian authorities to secure the couple’s safe return. Iran has a history of detaining foreign and dual nationals on espionage and security-related charges. The case has raised concerns about the safety of British citizens traveling in Iran.
