**Bengaluru, February 19, 2025** – The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) Archives will launch a significant collection of 100,000 new archival objects on February 22nd. This expansive collection spans over 100 years and encompasses 20 diverse collections, offering a unique glimpse into the history of science in contemporary India.
According to the NCBS Archives website, the materials include a wealth of historical documents and artifacts, such as letters, photographs, audio recordings, scientific equipment, and field notes. The collection notably features rarely documented histories of women, communities, and social movements, providing a multifaceted perspective on scientific progress. The Archives describes the collection as revealing “labour, class, gender, politics, humour, and so much more.”
In addition to the new collection, the Archives will showcase several public-facing projects launched in 2024 and unveil a new exhibition titled “Untitled, Undated.” This exhibition focuses on the fragmented and often ambiguous nature of archival materials, highlighting the challenges and interpretations involved in understanding historical records.
The launch event is free and open to the public. For further details, visit https://www.ncbs.res.in/events/archives-six.
