The electric vehicle giant has reportedly finalized locations in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai and Aerocity in New Delhi. Aerocity, near Indira Gandhi International Airport, is a hub for global corporate offices, luxury hotels, and retail outlets, while BKC is one of India’s leading commercial centers, close to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The move follows recent job postings by Tesla in India and comes after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk during Musk’s recent visit to the US. The company had previously been hesitant due to high import duties, but a recent government policy change reducing custom duty on luxury electric vehicles costing over $40,000 from 110% to 70% has made the Indian market more attractive.
