Tue Feb 18 16:19:54 UTC 2025: ## VACB Raids Kannur Corporation Over Waste Management Irregularities
**Kannur, Kerala, February 18, 2025** – The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) conducted a raid at the Kannur Corporation office today following allegations of financial irregularities in the management of the Chelora waste plant. The raid stems from a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report that uncovered irregularities totaling ₹1.77 crore.
The CAG report highlighted violations in the tender process and alleged selective waste removal at the Chelora trenching ground, with only a portion of the waste cleared while the remainder was buried. CPI(M) district secretary M.V. Jayarajan further accused former Mayor T.O. Mohanan of directing contractors on waste removal quantities, contributing to the alleged scam. Jayarajan also noted that the contracting firm received an inflated payment of ₹2.63 crore, significantly exceeding the stipulated ₹86 lakh. The investigation is ongoing.
