Tue Feb 18 04:20:00 UTC 2025: **Texas Longhorns Upset No. 5 LSU Tigers in Thrilling 65-58 Victory**
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 3 Texas Longhorns rallied from a sluggish start to defeat the No. 5 LSU Tigers 65-58 on Sunday, handing the Tigers their second loss of the season. Madison Booker led the Longhorns with 16 points, including crucial free throws in the final seconds, overcoming a first-half shooting slump where she missed all 11 of her attempts.
Texas struggled offensively in the first half, shooting a dismal 7-of-37, and trailed by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. However, a strong defensive effort and key free throws propelled them to victory. The Longhorns outscored LSU at the free throw line, going a perfect 21-of-21.
Aneesah Morrow led LSU with 15 points and 20 rebounds, but the Tigers’ foul trouble in the third quarter allowed Texas to claw back into the game. Bryanna Preston’s basket gave Texas the lead with under six minutes remaining, a lead they would not relinquish. Rori Harmon’s consecutive baskets further extended the lead before Booker sealed the win with her late free throws.
This victory marks Texas’ tenth consecutive win and their third against a top-10 opponent in eight days. Freshman Justice Carlton also made a significant contribution in her first career start, contributing five points and six rebounds.
Texas improves to 26-2 (11-1 SEC), while LSU falls to 25-2 (10-2 SEC). The Longhorns next face Georgia on February 24th, while LSU hosts Georgia on Thursday.
