Chennai, February 18, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu government announced a ₹360 crore investment to upgrade the state’s fisheries infrastructure. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin made the announcement following a meeting with representatives from various fishermen associations. The funds will be used for projects including the development of a new fishing harbor at Thangachimadam, improvements to the Kunthukal fish landing center, and the construction of a bait arch in Pamban North.

The fishermen’s associations also raised concerns about the recurring arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. Chief Minister Stalin reiterated the state government’s efforts to address this issue, highlighting letters sent to the Union government urging intervention with Sri Lanka. He noted that the Fisheries Minister and Tamil Nadu MPs have already met with the Union Minister for External Affairs to discuss the matter.
