**NEW DELHI** – In a display of warm hospitality, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally greeted the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, upon his arrival at Delhi airport on Monday. The Emir, who is on a two-day state visit (February 17-18), was welcomed with hugs and jovial exchanges with PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who was also present.

This rare airport welcome underscores the strong and growing relationship between India and Qatar. The Emir’s visit, following an invitation from PM Modi, is his second state visit to India, the first being in March 2015.

Tuesday’s agenda includes meetings with President Droupadi Murmu and further talks with PM Modi. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) anticipates the visit will significantly boost the already multifaceted partnership between the two nations, citing increasing cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. The MEA also highlighted the significant contribution of the large Indian expatriate community in Qatar.
