**New Delhi, India** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally greeted the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, upon his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday, marking the start of a two-day state visit. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also joined in the welcoming ceremony.
The visit, from February 17th to 18th, is expected to significantly boost the already strong multifaceted partnership between India and Qatar. During his stay, the Amir will meet with Prime Minister Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar. Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral relations across various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, and technology. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are also anticipated to be signed.
The Qatari Amir’s visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, is his second state visit to India, following a previous trip in March 2015. A joint business forum, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Commerce Ministry, will be held on Tuesday. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will address the forum, which aims to explore further investment and technological collaborations between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the significant contribution of the large Indian expatriate community in Qatar, emphasizing their positive impact on the country’s development. The visit underscores the commitment of both nations to long-term economic cooperation and strengthened people-to-people ties.
