**New Delhi, February 17, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, upon his arrival in Delhi for a two-day state visit. In a rare display of hospitality, PM Modi personally greeted the Emir at the airport on Monday evening, describing him as a “brother” on X (formerly Twitter).

The Emir’s visit, at the invitation of PM Modi, aims to further strengthen the multifaceted partnership between India and Qatar. A high-level delegation accompanying the Emir includes ministers, senior officials, and business leaders.

The itinerary for the visit is packed. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will meet the Emir on Monday evening. On Tuesday, a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhawan will precede a meeting between the Emir and PM Modi at Hyderabad House. Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of bilateral issues. Following talks, an exchange of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) is scheduled, after which the Emir will meet President Droupadi Murmu.

The MEA highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations, emphasizing the strengthening of relations in trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people connections. The large Indian diaspora in Qatar, contributing significantly to the country’s development, was also acknowledged. This marks the Emir’s second state visit to India, with his previous visit occurring in March 2015.
