Tue Feb 18 18:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Costa Rica Agrees to Accept US Deportations
**San José, Costa Rica** – Costa Rica has become the third Central American nation to accept the repatriation of migrants deported from the United States, following in the footsteps of Panama and Guatemala. A statement from the Costa Rican presidential office announced that a commercial flight carrying 200 migrants from Central Asia and India will arrive on Wednesday.
The repatriation is part of a collaboration between the US and Costa Rican governments, fully funded by the United States and overseen by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Upon arrival, the migrants will be temporarily housed at a care center near the Panamanian border before being transported to their home countries.
This move follows similar agreements reached by Panama, which already received a flight of 119 migrants last week, and Guatemala. The US initiative aims to address President Trump’s hardline stance on illegal immigration, as he pledged to deport millions of undocumented migrants during his campaign and early days in office. The deportations involve migrants from various countries, not just those from Latin America, where the vast majority of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US originate.
