**Mumbai, India** – Vicky Kaushal’s latest historical drama, “Chhaava,” is making waves at the box office, emerging as Bollywood’s first major hit of 2025. The film, which opened to rave reviews, has not only enjoyed a spectacular opening weekend but also successfully navigated the crucial first Monday test, posting earnings nearly double the combined total of the next seven highest-grossing Hindi films on their respective first Mondays.
“Chhaava” raked in an impressive ₹24 crore nett on Monday, a 50.52% drop from Sunday’s ₹48.5 crore, according to Sacnilk. This figure dwarfs the first Monday collections of other 2025 Bollywood releases such as “Sky Force,” “Deva,” “Emergency,” “Fateh,” “Azaad,” “Badass Ravikumar,” and “Loveyapa,” whose Monday earnings paled in comparison.
With a domestic total of ₹140.5 crore and a global gross of ₹164.75 crore, “Chhaava” has already surpassed its reported budget of ₹130 crore (as per Koimoi), making it the first Hindi film of the year to achieve this significant milestone. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar and starring Rashmika Mandanna alongside Kaushal, maintained a strong 31.62% occupancy rate throughout Monday, further highlighting its popularity.
This success marks Rashmika Mandanna’s fourth consecutive theatrical hit, following “Varisu” (2023), “Animal” (2023), and “Pushpa 2: The Rule” (2024). “Chhaava,” an adaptation of Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel “Chhava,” depicts the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Confederacy. The film’s continued success positions it as a major contender for box office dominance in 2025.
