Tue Feb 18 16:35:34 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Party Pushes for Greater City Autonomy in Governance Bill

**Bengaluru, February 18, 2025** – The Bengaluru NavaNirmana Party (BNP) is urging significant changes to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill (GBG), 2024, advocating for a more independent and effective city government. With a legislative panel nearing the completion of its report this month, the BNP has intensified its lobbying efforts.

The party has presented amendments proposing a directly elected mayor with a five-year term and independent budgetary control. BNP leaders have met with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to push for these reforms, which they believe are crucial for improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure and quality of life.

“Bengaluru needs a strong city government, not one controlled by the State,” stated Vishnu Reddy, the BNP’s Mahadevapura zonal president. BNP founder and general secretary Srikanth Narasimhan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for a more autonomous municipal administration. The party is optimistic that its proposed amendments will be included in the final version of the GBG Bill.
