Tue Feb 18 12:26:03 UTC 2025: ## BJP Launches Door-to-Door Campaign for Three-Language Policy in Tamil Nadu, Sparking Political Row

**Chennai, India** – The BJP in Tamil Nadu is escalating its campaign for the implementation of a three-language policy in the state, launching a door-to-door drive starting March 1st. This move further intensifies the ongoing conflict with the ruling DMK party, who accuse the BJP of imposing Hindi.

The BJP argues that the DMK’s opposition to the Centre’s policy violates constitutional principles. Tamil Nadu, however, has historically adhered to a two-language policy of Tamil and English, rejecting the three-language policy since the time of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai.

The dispute reached a critical point after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that Tamil Nadu risks losing funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme if it doesn’t fully implement the National Education Policy 2020, which includes the three-language provision. The Minister labeled the opposition as politically motivated, highlighting Tamil Nadu as the only state resisting the policy.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned the move as blackmail, vowing that the state would not succumb to such pressure. DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran further accused the Centre of diverting nearly ₹2,000 crore allocated to Tamil Nadu to other states, a claim he made in the Lok Sabha during a budget debate. Chief Minister Stalin reiterated the state’s unwavering stance against the three-language policy, assuring that Tamil Nadu will provide for its students through its own funds.

State BJP chief K. Annamalai criticized the DMK for clinging to a “1960s policy,” questioning the party’s implementation of trilingual curricula in its own private schools while opposing it in government schools. He argued that the DMK’s stance disadvantages students from less privileged backgrounds. The BJP’s aggressive campaign promises to further fuel this already contentious political battle in Tamil Nadu.
