**VISAKHAPATNAM, February 17, 2025** – Anganwadi workers in Visakhapatnam staged a protest on Monday, demanding improved wages and benefits. The demonstration, organized by the Anganwadi Teachers and Helpers Union (affiliated with CITU), was part of a statewide action.

The union’s State general secretary, K. Subbaravamma, highlighted that Anganwadi staff, who provide crucial services to pregnant women, mothers, and children, haven’t received a salary increase since 2019. She emphasized the staff’s significant personal investment in maintaining the Anganwadi centers.

Key demands include a minimum monthly wage of ₹26,000, the extension of government welfare schemes to Anganwadi workers, and employment opportunities for dependents of Anganwadi staff who die in service. The union has threatened further statewide protests if their demands aren’t met during the upcoming budget session. The protest in Visakhapatnam involved several union district leaders, including M.
