**Hyderabad, February 18, 2025** – The Telangana state government has committed to significantly increase funding for its medical and health sector in the upcoming 2025-26 budget. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha announced the decision following a pre-budget meeting with senior health officials on Tuesday.
The ministers highlighted the crucial role of government healthcare institutions for the poor and middle classes, emphasizing the need for substantial investment in the Rajiv Aarogyasri health insurance scheme. They expressed concern over the alleged neglect of crucial areas like drug regulation, food safety, and medical education under the previous BRS government. The new government plans to modernize and strengthen these sectors.
The increased budget allocation will also focus on completing the construction of medical colleges and health institutions before the end of the fiscal year. Officials have been instructed to optimize utilization of centrally sponsored health schemes. Furthermore, the government is exploring proposals for the construction of science and technology institutions, including planetariums, in district headquarters. The commitment to improved healthcare reflects a key priority of the new administration.
