Tue Feb 18 17:41:54 UTC 2025: ## Delta Plane Crashes and Flips at Toronto Airport; All Passengers Survive
**Toronto, ON** – A Delta Air Lines flight operating a CRJ900 twin-jet from Minneapolis crashed and flipped upside down upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday afternoon. Miraculously, all 80 passengers and crew survived, though 21 sustained injuries, with most released from hospital by Tuesday morning.
The plane, operated by Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, experienced a hard landing, resulting in the rear landing gear buckling and the right wing shearing off in a fiery explosion. Video footage shows the aircraft skidding on its belly before flipping onto its back. Passengers described a jarring impact and the unsettling sensation of the plane being sideways and then inverted.
The incident is the latest in a series of recent aviation accidents in North America, following deadly crashes in Alaska, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. While the cause of Monday’s crash remains under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the National Transportation Safety Board, preliminary reports suggest strong winds, gusting up to 38 mph, and potentially blowing snow, may have played a role. Aviation experts point to the absence of a “flare” maneuver before landing, and the failure of the right wing, as contributing factors to the plane flipping.
Despite the severity of the crash, first responders were praised for their swift and effective response, preventing any fatalities. Delta CEO Ed Bastian commended both the airline crew and first responders for their professionalism in the evacuation. The runway where the incident occurred is expected to remain closed until at least Thursday evening. The investigation is ongoing.
