Mon Feb 17 16:57:44 UTC 2025: ## Delhi BJP Set for Grand Swearing-In Ceremony at Ramlila Maidan

**NEW DELHI** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a lavish swearing-in ceremony for its new Delhi Chief Minister at the iconic Ramlila Maidan on Thursday at 4:30 pm. The event marks the party’s return to power in the national capital after a 26-year absence.

The ceremony promises to be a spectacular affair, featuring a pre-ceremony musical performance by Kailash Kher and other artists. A large number of dignitaries are expected to attend, including Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from 20 states, diplomats from major countries, BJP leaders and workers from across India, over 50 film stars and industrialists, farmers, beneficiaries of central government schemes, and Delhi residents. Prominent spiritual leaders like Baba Ramdev and Baba Bageshwar Dhirendra Shastri will also be in attendance.

While the identity of the new Chief Minister remains shrouded in secrecy, Parvesh Verma, son of former Chief Minister Saheb Singh Verma, is considered a frontrunner among a list of at least 15 potential candidates. The BJP’s 48 MLAs will meet on Wednesday to formally select their leader, who will succeed Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Atishi. The new government will comprise eight ministers, including the Chief Minister.

The BJP’s victory, securing 48 out of 70 seats in the recent elections, marks a significant turnaround from AAP’s previous dominance. AAP’s 10-year rule ended amidst allegations of corruption against its leaders, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, who faced imprisonment. These scandals, including the alleged liquor policy scam and allegations surrounding the refurbishment of Kejriwal’s official residence, are believed to have significantly damaged AAP’s popularity.
