Tue Feb 18 10:47:56 UTC 2025: ## War Hero’s Name Restored to Ghazipur School After Family Protest
**GHAZIPUR, Uttar Pradesh, Feb 18** – The name of Param Vir Chakra awardee Abdul Hamid, a 1965 war hero, has been reinstated at the entrance of the government primary school in his native village of Dhamupur, Ghazipur, following a family protest. The school’s name had been changed to “PM Shri Composite School” during recent repainting, sparking outrage.
The name change, implemented five days prior by the Basic Education Department, led to protests from Hamid’s family. Initially, officials attempted to appease them by placing Hamid’s name on a wall, but his grandson, Jameel Ahmad, escalated the issue to higher authorities.
Today, the school’s name was officially restored to “Shaheed Veer Abdul Hamid PM Shri Composite School, Dhamupur, Jakhanian, Ghazipur district.” Ahmad confirmed the change, criticizing Basic Education Officer Hemant Rao for the initial removal. He called the omission of the war hero’s name an “inexcusable mistake.”
The incident drew criticism from Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who condemned the BJP-led state government on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the action was “extremely reprehensible and indecent.” He further questioned the government’s priorities, highlighting the sacrifice of those who fought for the nation’s independence.
