Mon Feb 17 06:58:21 UTC 2025: ## Perumbalam Bridge Set to Open in April, Boosting Kerala Connectivity
**Alappuzha, Kerala – February 17, 2025** – The long-awaited Perumbalam bridge, connecting Perumbalam island in Alappuzha district to the mainland, is scheduled to open in the first week of April. Construction is complete, and work on the approach roads is progressing rapidly, according to officials.
The ₹100 crore bridge, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), spans 1,157 meters and features a 7.5-meter-wide carriageway and pedestrian walkways. Its completion will significantly ease travel for the approximately 15,000 residents of Perumbalam island, who currently rely on boats for transport.
MLA Daleema Jojo confirmed the April opening, contingent upon the finalization of the approach roads. She also announced plans for Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus services to begin immediately following the bridge’s inauguration, with designated stops for short and long-distance routes.
The bridge is a key component of a larger government initiative to improve connectivity between Ernakulam, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts. Future phases include the construction of two additional bridges: one linking Perumbalam and Vattavayal islands, and another connecting Vattavayal and Poothotta. These projects aim to further enhance regional accessibility and economic development.
