**Visakhapatnam, February 17, 2025** – A 63-year-old woman, Renuka Mahanti, died of a heart attack at King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Mahanti, who hailed from Mallividu village, was admitted on February 6 with symptoms suspected to be Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). While she had pre-existing conditions including diabetes and hypertension, her GBS symptoms had reportedly improved under treatment.
According to KGH Superintendent P. Sivananda, Mahanti complained of chest pain and collapsed during his routine ward rounds. Despite immediate transfer to the ICU and treatment, an ECG confirmed a myocardial infarction (heart attack), and resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Dr. Sivananda stated that the death was due to the acute heart attack, not GBS.
