Mon Feb 17 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## New Jersey Braces for Winter Storm: Up to 6 Inches of Snow Expected

**TRENTON, NJ** – A winter storm is expected to hit parts of New Jersey Wednesday evening, bringing with it the potential for significant snowfall, according to AccuWeather. The forecasting service has released its first snowfall total map, predicting 3 to 6 inches of accumulation in southern counties. Central New Jersey is forecast to receive 1 to 3 inches, while areas north of Interstate 80 may see little to no accumulation.

This prediction is based on a current forecast showing the storm tracking further south. However, AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Bernie Rayno noted on X (formerly Twitter) that a northward shift could bring heavier snowfall to northern New Jersey. Areas like Atlantic City could see 5 to 10 inches, while Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C. are expected to receive a hefty 6 to 12 inches. This heavier snowfall zone could even extend into Cape May County.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Courtney Travis warned that the timing of the storm, hitting the I-95 corridor Wednesday afternoon, could create hazardous travel conditions during the evening commute, particularly in Washington and Baltimore. The storm’s track will significantly impact snowfall totals in the Northeast, with New England potentially seeing heavier accumulations depending on its path, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kerry Schwindenhammer.

While the National Weather Service has not yet issued a snowfall forecast map, it has indicated a 15-25% probability of more than a foot of snow for New Jersey within a 48-hour period starting Wednesday morning. This storm follows a weekend of severe weather in the state, including heavy rain and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. High wind warnings remain in effect for much of New Jersey, with temperatures expected to drop below freezing overnight. AccuWeather forecasts a break from the recent string of winter storms for the East Coast following this event.
