Mon Feb 17 10:00:57 UTC 2025: ## Maharashtra Forms Committee to Study Minimum Support Price Implementation

**Mumbai, February 17, 2025** – The Maharashtra government has established a committee to examine and enhance the implementation of minimum support price (MSP) schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA). The committee, mandated to submit a comprehensive report within a month, will propose strategies for effective MSP scheme implementation across the state.

The decision follows guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in October 2018. These guidelines outline the central government’s commitment to procuring up to 25% of essential agricultural commodities at the MSP, with the National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India (NAFED) serving as the nodal agency. State-level institutions are responsible for facilitating local purchases and ensuring adequate infrastructure at procurement centers.

The newly formed committee, chaired by the managing director of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Marketing Federation, will assess the current system and recommend improvements. Members include representatives from NAFED, the state marketing department, and the state agricultural marketing board. The committee’s recommendations will aim to streamline the MSP schemes within Maharashtra and ensure their smooth operation.
