Mon Feb 17 05:27:04 UTC 2025: **BJP Sweeps Delhi Elections, Speculation Mounts Over Next Chief Minister**

NEW DELHI, February 17, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats and ending the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) reign. The BJP’s campaign, centered around their “Viksit Delhi Sankalp Patra” manifesto, focused on promises of development across sectors including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and job creation, with particular emphasis on support for women, students, and marginalized groups. High-profile AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, failed to secure re-election.

The BJP’s victory has sparked intense speculation regarding the identity of the next Chief Minister. Several newly elected MLAs are contenders, most prominently Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal, and Satish Upadhyay, a former Delhi BJP president. While senior BJP leaders confirmed that the new Chief Minister will be chosen from among the newly elected MLAs, and there will be no deputy CM, the final decision remains undisclosed.

Originally scheduled for Monday, February 18th, the BJP Legislative Party meeting to elect the new leader has been postponed to February 19th. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be a grand affair, taking place on February 20th at Ramlila Maidan, with an estimated attendance of 12,000-16,000 Delhi residents, along with dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other Chief Ministers, and prominent figures from various fields. The sons of two former BJP Chief Ministers, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and Harish Khurana, are among the newly elected MLAs.
