**Mumbai, February 17** – Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama, “Chhaava,” has defied all expectations, becoming the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2024 in just its opening weekend. The film, which released on Valentine’s Day, raked in a staggering ₹116.5 crore (net) at the Indian box office in three days, exceeding initial projections significantly.

Industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the Maddock production earned a massive ₹48.5 crore on Sunday alone, representing a 31.08% increase from Saturday’s earnings. This follows a record-breaking opening day collection of ₹31 crore, marking the biggest opening for a Vicky Kaushal film. The film’s success extends beyond Maharashtra, with over 50% of Sunday’s earnings coming from other regions of India, demonstrating strong nationwide appeal. Exhibitors have added extra screenings to meet the high demand.

“Chhaava,” directed by Laxman Utekar and based on the life of Maratha King Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has also performed exceptionally well internationally, accumulating ₹18.4 crore overseas in its first three days. This brings its worldwide gross to a remarkable ₹100 crore.

Despite a reported budget of ₹130 crore, the film’s phenomenal opening and sustained momentum suggest a lucrative run ahead. The film’s strong pre-sales for Monday indicate continued box office dominance in the coming days. Starring alongside Kaushal are Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna.
