**Bardhaman, West Bengal:** Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday delivered a powerful address calling for the unification of Hindu society, describing it as the nation’s responsible community and highlighting its inherent capacity for unity within diversity. Speaking at an RSS program in Bardhaman, Bhagwat addressed common criticisms of the organization’s focus on Hindu society, asserting that it is this community that bears the responsibility for the nation’s well-being.
Bhagwat emphasized that India’s identity, which he referred to as “Bharatvarsha,” transcends geographical boundaries and is defined by its unique cultural essence. He argued that those who couldn’t coexist with this essence formed separate nations, leaving behind those who wished to preserve India’s core Hindu identity. This identity, he explained, embraces the world’s diversity, reflecting the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family). He clarified that the RSS’s aim is to unite Hindu society, not for its own benefit, but to contribute to the nation and the world.
Bhagwat drew parallels between historical figures and ideals from Indian epics to illustrate India’s enduring values, emphasizing the importance of selflessness and unity. He addressed criticisms regarding the RSS’s focus on Hindutva, stating that the concept of unity in diversity has existed for centuries in India and that accusing discussions of this principle as promoting Hindutva is a misrepresentation. He further challenged the narrative that the British created India, citing Mahatma Gandhi’s opposition to this claim.
Acknowledging the scale of the RSS’s nationwide network, Bhagwat emphasized that its growth is not for self-aggrandizement, but to serve the nation. He concluded by inviting people to engage directly with the RSS, dispelling misconceptions through firsthand experience, and reiterating the organization’s commitment to fostering unity and a strong emotional bond within Hindu society. The rally itself followed a legal battle after initial denial of permission by the Bengal police, ultimately approved by the Calcutta High Court.
